Grady Speech and Debate Team Thu, 10 May 2012 15:30:26 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 Barkley Forum Information http://gradyspeaks.org/2009/01/barkley-forum-information/ http://gradyspeaks.org/2009/01/barkley-forum-information/#comments Wed, 21 Jan 2009 16:00:34 +0000 Mario Herrera http://gradyspeaks.org/?p=321 This weekend we will be attending The Barkley Forum.  The tournament is quite different from other Georgia tournaments, so I want to make sure details are known.  Student attending include: Stephanie Styles, Tyler Olson, Emily Atkinson, Scott Bremer, Matt Ward, Taylor Walker, Hannah Snowden, Hannah Mitchell, James Holland, John Holland, Michael Barlow, Erin Dabbs, Kaylin Morton, JP Patterson, Grayson Blake, Lucas Bailey and Mike Robinson.  This is a TWO DAY tournament (at miminum), meaning students will need to get to the tournament on Friday.  WE WILL NEED PARENTS FOR DROP-OFF AND PICK UP!!  Here is a break-down of event locations: Policy Debate will be held at Georgia State.  Public Forum will be held at Druid Hills HS.  All IE’s, Duo, Congress and LD will be on the Emory University Campus.  Here are directions to the BF, Georgia State parking instructions and the parking letter and pass for Emory University.  Here is the parent permission form If you would like to see the schedule, go to www.joyoftournaments.com and look for January 23-25 and then “Barkley Forum.”  You will see a link that says “Schedules.”  Click on this and look for the appropriate event.  And, as always, call if you have any questions.

The packet adequately covers the broad range of Alternative Energy by incorporating Wind, Nuclear, Solar, Space, and many other energies in the literature.

We’ve been pouring over applications for the past few days, and we have set a pool for the inaugural Knights of the Round Robin, held in conjunction with the Barkley Forum for HS at Emory University and Georgia State University. More information behind the cut.]]> The staff at Grady Speech and Debate are still taking applications for the Knights of the Round Robin this January!

Some people have been confused about the Round Robin. Here’s more info:

  1. The deadline is December 14th!
  2. Everyone has to apply. There are no special slots given to any person or team. Get your application at GradySpeaks[.org]. It’s at the top of the page.
  3. You don’t have to fill out the entire application.
    If you don’t remember what restaurant you ate at, we won’t toss your application, same goes for trophy size. We just wanted something fun to read. Please note that the essay is preferred, though.
  4. The Round Robin runs from the 23rd to the 24th of January. (The two days before the Barkley Forum.)
  5. Thanks to the support of the Barkley Forum at Emory University, you can stay in the tournament hotel at the same rate for both the Round Robin and the Barkley Forum for HIgh Schools.
  6. You can mail the completed appplication, or email it. Email it to us at roundrobin@gradyspeaks.org, or mail it to us at:

    Either way, we’ll confirm we got it by email.

  7. The application is on the website, at the top of the page. There are two versions. One can be filled out and email back to us, and the other can be filled out by hand. Remember, the application has to include the tournaments, the basic info and the signature of a coach and the applicant.

Grady High School, with support from the Barkley Forum at Emory University and Georgia State University’s Debate Program, are proud to announce the Knights of the Round Robin, a national, application-based tournament in Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum Debate. It will be held on the Downtown campus of Georgia State University the two days prior to the Barkley Forum for High Schools, on the 23rd and 24th of January. We are working hard with various Atlanta partners to make this round robin like no other, all the way down to the application, which will be available Tuesday morning. The staff will accept applications for ten slots in both divisions, the deadline is 14 December. All announcements and the application, will appear here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to apply for the Barkley Forum (although it is a good tournament), or be accepted to it, to apply to the round robin. Although we tie in to that tournament, we want to open to all that want to apply.
