Since the last update, we’ve gotten a few questions:

1) How do I pay? – You can pay two ways: directly online at http://gradyspeaks.org/roundrobin/pay, or by making a check out to Mario Herrera, Henry W. Grady Speech and Debate.

If you are hiring a judge, the fee is $100. Partial judges are $50.

2) What is this about cars? – This is important. Atlanta has a ton of traffic. Just remember that. Otherwise, there is no “no-car” rule. Since we’re having the tournament at one location and the awards at Emory’s dinner on the 24th, you’ll need one.

3) Since the RR is small for PF, how does that work? – Each PF team will debate both sides of the resolution in a round-robin format. Each team will see each other twice, once on one side and the second time on the other. We had a full pool, then drops came around to bring us back to square one. From now on, this will be a Georgia RR with one out of state guest in PF.

4) Awards are at Emory, included as part of the BFHS dinner the night before the tournament. You will be around Emory debaters, and competitors at the Pace RR (Policy). It’s a pretty nice dinner, and includes the Georgia Speaker of the Year (a surprise).

Location update: The first night of the RR is going to be held at Grady High School.

The staff at Grady Speech and Debate are still taking applications for the Knights of the Round Robin this January!

Some people have been confused about the Round Robin. Here’s more info:

The deadline is December 14th!

Everyone has to apply. There are no special slots given to any person or team. Get your application at GradySpeaks[.org]. It’s at the top of the page.

You don’t have to fill out the entire application.
If you don’t remember what restaurant you ate at, we won’t toss your application, same goes for trophy size. We just wanted something fun to read. Please note that the essay is preferred, though.

The Round Robin runs from the 23rd to the 24th of January. (The two days before the Barkley Forum.)

Thanks to the support of the Barkley Forum at Emory University, you can stay in the tournament hotel at the same rate for both the Round Robin and the Barkley Forum for HIgh Schools.

You can mail the completed appplication, or email it. Email it to us at roundrobin@gradyspeaks.org, or mail it to us at:

Mario Herrera
Henry W. Grady Speech and Debate
929 Charles Allen Dr. NE
Atlanta, GA 30309

Either way, we’ll confirm we got it by email.

The application is on the website, at the top of the page. There are two versions. One can be filled out and email back to us, and the other can be filled out by hand. Remember, the application has to include the tournaments, the basic info and the signature of a coach and the applicant.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all this January!

So, on Monday, the 13th, the new Georgia Forensics Daily was due to appear. A couple of things happened as I was taking the final steps for it.

The style/theme (CSS) being used broke.

The database that’s used to run every post and all other content failed as well, causing me to go to a backup.

Our web host was experiencing various network/server balancing issues, causing performance to be slow overall.

The confluence of these three things, along with my issues (I can’t stand the University System of Georgia), made for an interesting three days.

So I personally want to apologise to all of you for the unintentional delay in the project. I am working, and our host is
working to solve the problem in the fastest manner possible. For any future issues, check this page: GradySpeaks Support. It has the latest updates on the status of the servers that make Georgia Forensics and GradySpeaks run.

Wishing myself luck,

There’s been a very important comment on the transition that’s underway, and I want to publicly address it, as it’s something that will make or break the partnership that we’ve created.

Georgia Forensics Daily is for all of Georgia to come together and form an online community that we can all engage in. One of the reasons that I asked to partner with Jeff is to help realize the potential that the site has, and to give back.

The idea that this site is primarily for those in the Atlanta area, or is run by people in the area could not be further from the truth. Comments that I may have made about south Georgia appeared to have rubbed people the wrong way, and I want to clarify. The idea of south Georgia as a ‘hotbed of discourse’ is nothing more than my attempt to express the passion and respect that I have for that region, and a call for more news. In fact, more news and more voices all around is the goal, and to make this work, they’re absolutely essential. Georgia is, in my opinion, the state to be in for speech and debate right now, and we need to make our presence known in every way possible, and make it that we make our opponents nationally feel the power that we collectively have.

To those that I have turned off, I apologize. I took my passion far, and obviously I did not respect those I was targeting. I look forward to your comments (and please comment lots), and look forward to releasing the new Georgia Forensics Daily to the Georgia circuit.

If you want to comment, simply email me at brandon [at] gaforensics.com, google talk me at brandon.sheats [at] gmail [dot] com, aim me (britishkid06), or leave a post on Facebook, Cross-X and this post.
