Grady Is Going to Nationals…Again!

Its been two weeks since the Georgia Northern Mountain District Tournament, the qualifier for the National Forensic League Tournament during this upcoming summer. No one had posted anything about Grady’s latest success in all this chaos:

Policy: John Holland & Minh Lam, Holden Choi and Michael Barlow

We also had many team members qualify for the Catholic Forensic League National Tournament that will be in May during Memorial Weekend [in Albany, NY; nice, huh]. Those qualifying to Grand Nationals are:

As a happy side note, the entire speech and forensics team looks forward to the new hair styles our wonderful coaches will be sporting very soon, courtesy of our many students heading to nationals.

Barkley Forum Information

This weekend we will be attending The Barkley Forum. The tournament is quite different from other Georgia tournaments, so I want to make sure details are known. Student attending include: Stephanie Styles, Tyler Olson, Emily Atkinson, Scott Bremer, Matt Ward, Taylor Walker, Hannah Snowden, Hannah Mitchell, James Holland, John Holland, Michael Barlow, Erin Dabbs, Kaylin Morton, JP Patterson, Grayson Blake, Lucas Bailey and Mike Robinson. This is a TWO DAY tournament (at miminum), meaning students will need to get to the tournament on Friday. WE WILL NEED PARENTS FOR DROP-OFF AND PICK UP!! Here is a break-down of event locations: Policy Debate will be held at Georgia State. Public Forum will be held at Druid Hills HS. All IE’s, Duo, Congress and LD will be on the Emory University Campus. Here are directions to the BF, Georgia State parking instructions and the parking letter and pass for Emory University. I hope you have caught some of the Grady HS Speech and Debate Team on “CNN Newsroom,” Monday through Friday, 11:00am- 1:00pm on CNN. We are featured in a six-part series showcasing high school students and their views on issues facing the US and the world. So far, the two topics have included “Paying for College” and how “Our Generation Will Have to Clean Up This Economic Mess” (I made up those titles, but you get the idea). Mike Robinson, DJ Walker, John Holland, Stephanie Styles, Ben Power, Taylor Walker, Michael Barlow, Holden Choi and Lauren Scott are featured on the program, and eloquently share their thoughts on current events. We will keep you updated on future air times.

I realize, as we head into a New Year, I have yet to post the results from the Isidore Newman tournament! Here ya go:

Mike Robinson and Lucas Bailey- Champions, Public Forum

Hannah Mitchell- 5th place, Oral Interp; Champion, Dramatic Interp

Taylor Walker- 2nd place, Dramatic Interp

Wesley Powell- 5th place, Humorous Interp; tie for 3rd, Dramatic Interp

Matt Ward- 6th place, Dramatic Interp; 3rd place, Humorous Interp

Overall, tied for 3rd place Speech Sweepstakes with Hattiesburg HS, MS.

It was great seeing old friends from around the South. And to Jay Rye of Montgomery Academy… we look forward to the Birmingham Nationals!

A special thanks to Jim Campbell, Terry Boling, Ramika Gourdine, Matt Johnson, and, of course, Brandon Sheats for going along with us. It was a GREAT trip!

This past weekend was the ChattaHOOCHee Cougar Classic and it was a great time to be a Grady Jester! With a team of nearly 60 individuals, Grady was on a mission. I’m glad to report…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! (No, Alexis, you don’t have wear a flight suit…)
